翻訳途上で機能するタンパク質の発見により、タンパク質は固有の構造に正しく折り畳まれて機能するという固定概念が変わりタンパク質の世界が広がった。このような多面性を有する様々なタンパク質の生成のために、リボソームが多様性を生み出す動的な制御因子として機能しているのではないかと考えた。すなわち約80種類のリボソームタンパク質と4種類のrRNAで構成されるリボソームはヘテロに存在し、それらが特定の mRNA を選択的に認識・翻訳することで、生理機能や病理機能を発揮するのではないだろうか。
本研究では、統合的ストレス応答の研究から見出した腎癌関連特殊リボソームに着目したタンパク質翻訳の網羅的探索を行い、発癌との関連する非典型的翻訳を明らかにする。
